普通高校英语专业学生自主学习能力调查

国内学者对大学生自主学习能力的探索取得了阶段性成果,但针对英语专业的实证性研究匮乏。本文通过问卷调查,从学习动机、学习策略和学习环境三个维度,研究英语为非重点专业的一所普通高校中英语专业学生的自主学习情况。通过SPSS数据分析得出学生在自主学习过程中存在的问题,并对在此环境下如何培养学生的自主学习能力提出针对性的建议。     

基于工作过程的高职英语课程改革探索

"一技之长、学以致用、凸显能力"是现代高职教育的基本理念。然要实现这一点,需要高职教育在具体的教学环节中突出"工学结合"、"工作过程导向"、"以学生为中心"的教育宗旨,方能在满足社会需求的情形下夯实高职生的能力。本文正是基于此,以高职英语教育为例,探讨在高职英语教育中如何适应"工作过程导向"的要求,并对教学改革提出具体的思路,为高职英语培养现代化、高素质、职业化人才提供一点参考。     

Displacement and local linguistic practices: R‐lessness in post‐Katrina Greater New Orleans

Variable r‐lessness in New Orleans English is a salient linguistic feature tied to local place‐based identity. In this study, I examine rates of r‐lessness in the wake of Hurricane Katrina, which caused large‐scale displacement in the region. Participants come from the linguistically conservative suburb of Chalmette, where r‐lessness is more robust than in New Orleans proper. Participants’ connections to Chalmette were measured in two ways: (1) post‐Katrina location status, i.e. whether participants returned or relocated after the storm; (2) place orientation, captured via an ethnographically informed, multifaceted measure of stance and exposure to places outside of Chalmette. Analysis revealed that place orientation better predicts rates of r‐lessness than post‐Katrina location. I argue that the marked quality of r‐lessness makes it available for identity‐driven use to express a connection to Chalmette. This study demonstrates one way to account for the linguistic implications of individuals’ shifting allegiances to places they live(d).     

Struggle as opportunity: making sense of U.S. migration experiences through Buddhist practice

Recent scholarship demonstrates how immigrants rely on religion for resources and psychological and social support at various stages of migration. Many studies of religion focus on the institutional role of faith-based organisations, with little regard for the social importance of religious experiences in daily life. Using interviews with U.S. immigrants who identify as Buddhists, I examine how migrants use Buddhist philosophies as a lens for finding meaning in the struggles associated with migration, including language acquisition, employment, and legal status. Through their practice, migrants gain a sense of agency amid vulnerable circumstances. I also explore the potentially negative consequences of the practice’s individual focus, including the propensity to mask structural causes of inequality and impede possibilities for collective action.     

Tapping into English Language Learners' (ELLs') Prior Knowledge in Social Studies Instruction

Second language research and Culturally Relevant Pedagogy have shown a consensus that ELLs who have studied social studies in their home countries will have a better chance of understanding social studies concepts and quickly catching up to their native English-speaking peers. This article discusses strategies to make good use of ELLs' prior knowledge, native language and culture, and previous literacy to teach social studies concepts meaningfully and effectively to this group of students.     

重点高校人文社科学报英文编译质量的调查和思考

随机挑选出了国内九所重点高校的人文社科学报开展英文编译质量调查，结果发现这些学报在英文编译方面都存在着不少问题。针对发现的问题，提出了自己的看法。     

CDIO模式下C语言教学项目专业化研究

社会的不断发展对研究生的综合素质提出了更高的要求,高层次复合型人才已经成为研究生培养必须实现的目标,但是我国大多数理工科院校的研究生英语课堂教学重理论、轻实践、重讲授、轻参与、重知识、轻创新的情况严重影响了学生的学习热情及教学效果,迫切需要改革。CDIO工程教育理念以项目训练为载体设置课程和教学模式,强调以学生为中心,符合现代工程技术人才培养的一般规律,文章论述了在CDIO工程教育理念的指导下,在研究生英语课堂教学模式上的一次尝试,为工科院校研究生英语课堂教学新模式的探索提供新的思路。
